Are You a Juggler?

How many of you out there are the type that get yourself completely immersed in one story and have to get at least the first draft written--or hell, have to even get the entire set of revisions completed until it's query ready before you can move onto another story?

And what do you do when you've got other ideas itching at the back of your brain, trying to coax you into spending time with them instead of the characters you've already got dancing around on your temporal lobes? Do you ignore them with a promise of revisiting later? Or perhaps you choose to ignore completely?

I've had another story idea chirping in the back of my mind for some time now. So while I really like the idea of finishing a story before I go onto another one, I've decided that I can handle two at the same time. It's how I've always written when I was younger. Why not now?

It'll be exciting to get this one out, and to see the differences between the worlds in both my stories. Ah~ I'm just excited for it in general! This involved everything that I love the most! Magic, secrets, a backstabbing villain with a sexy voice (that bit is optional :P) and a lot of romance!

Yep. It's about as exciting as winning the lottery on your birthday. (Wouldn't we all like for that to happen?) So how do you like to work? One thing at a time or are you a story juggler?

If only I could juggle in real life too...

  1. I can only do one thing at a time. When I'm working on a draft I get a certain mindset, and I can't seem to switch to another mindset for another story until that first one is done.

    Good luck with your writing!

  3. I'm definitely not a juggler. I have to put my all into one project at a time. Wish I was a juggler... ;)

  4. Hi Devin! Good to see you again, too!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yea, it IS hard to get back on track after a detour. I've definitley tripped and stumbled over this new terrain. :P
I wish I was a juggler! The other characters sometimes drive me crazy while I'm writing. Lol! I can picture them poking at my temporal lobe saying, "Pay attention to MEEE!" haha! I think I need to get out the Duct tape so I can gag and bound them saying, "Shh, this is for your own good." ;)

  5. You know, right now I'm plowing through my sequel, but it's like a fire dying and I just came across a fresh idea I jotted down years ago that sounds SO exciting! What do I do? I don't like dropping from one novel to start another. I've done that only once because it felt like a tangled web of confusion and so I let it drop. Ugh...

  6. You know, I know people who swear by writing two WIP's at the same time. I've heard that if you get stuck somewhere in one, then you can hop to the other. Sounds good in theory...good luck!!

  7. I write one thing at a time, but I will plan other novels while I'm writing. It helps keep the creative juices flowing if I'm having a tough moment working on the current piece. Good luck with working on both at the same time!

  8. I'm definitely a juggler - I've got 3 notebooks and infinite piles of paper scraps with ideas, phrases, discarded story beginnings, etc. If I don't get them down, then often they disappear for good. And if a story leaps to mind fully formed - then I drop everything and write it. I suppose that's why I might never actually finish a novel :-) Oh, and welcome to the blogfest! RuleOfThreeBlogfest

  9. I am the QUEEN of juggling. =) Just ask the three kids arguing behind me--er, maybe don't ask them. I hear juggling babies is not exactly popular these days...

Ahem. I find there's a story for every mood, and when I'm not feverishly endeavoring to complete one, there's no harm in bouncing to fit the mood. Better writing happens that way. =) (Or at least happier writing.) All else fails, eat cheese eh?
